Dangers of extendable leads on a Greyhound.
🚫 Extendable leads 🚫
We have had a few people ask us about extendable leads lately.
We are strongly against the use of extendable leads for Greyhounds. They can be extremely dangerous leads especially to Greyhounds who can reach speeds of 40mph within seconds.
If a Greyhound 'takes off' while wearing an extendable lead the outcome can be very serious or even fatal, especially if the lead is attached to a collar around the dogs neck.
Not only are extendable leads dangerous for Greyhounds but also to their handlers. Handlers have been known to sustain injuries and broken bones.
If you do feel you and your sighthound are capable of using an extendable lead safely then always ensure it is attached to a harness and NEVER to a collar around their neck.
The safety of the dogs must come first and extendable leads are not safe.
If you want your Greyhound to have a bit of freedom on walks you can find secure fields on the link below (Always walk the perimeter of the field first, check the safety of the ground and ensure it is safe for your Greyhound to go off lead - no previous injuries etc)
